Building Cleaning

Reports to:
Retail Manager, Program Manager
Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Assist in regular cleaning tasks to provide a safe and clean environment, enabling Crossroads to increase sales and adoptions.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment:   minimum 1 hour

Location:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Maintain a clean environment for Crossroads pets, staff and customers.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • At the beginning of each shift, check in with staff for instructions
  • Clean retail and office spaces as directed
  • Notify staff if you see any potential maintenance issues

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ability to follow specific instructions from staff
  • Must be able to walk, bend and stoop

 

Age requirement:

17 years and older

 

Dress code:

Modest attire, jeans are permitted; must wear sturdy shoes, no flip-flops.

Building Maintenance

Reports to:

Program Director, Retail Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Assist in regular maintenance of Crossroads facilities, enabling Crossroads to increase sales and adoptions.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment:   as needed

Location:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Maintain safe and attractive building for Crossroads.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Check in with staff at beginning of each shift
  • Make building repairs as needed, including painting, construction, minor plumbing and electrical work, etc.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ability to follow specific instructions from staff
  • Must have experience in construction, building repair
  • Must be able to walk, bend and stoop

 

Age requirement:

17 years and older

Caring Connections Team

Reports to:

Caring Connections Team Lead, Adoptions Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Serve as a mentor/assistant in humane education program, impacting how young adults view animals and how they view themselves.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Location of Work: Varies

 

Goals:

Provide a safe environment and positive learning experience for the dogs and youth.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist with educational activities
  • Assist with dog training and handling
  • Help with other activities as instructed by Adoptions Manager and/or Team Lead

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • High comfort level with dogs; basic dog handling skills and willingness to learn and apply Crossroads dog interaction and training techniques

 

    • High comfort level with profile of Caring Connections’ audience and willingness to learn; apply Crossroads’ methodology in interacting with the youth
    • Ability to interact as a team with other volunteers and trainer
    • Ability to advocate for youth and dogs

 

  • Commit to participate in multi-week program (providing consistency for the youth)

 

 

Age requirement:

17 years and older

 

Dress code:

Attire appropriate for handling dogs and representing Crossroads.  Casual, loose-fitting clothes; no shorts above mid-thigh; Must wear sturdy shoes, no flip-flops.

Cat Socializer

Reports to:

Adoptions Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Improve the quality of life for Crossroads Pets’ adoptable cats by providing

exercise and human interaction through play and grooming.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment: Minimum 30 minutes

Location of Work:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Prepare cats to go to loving forever homes.

 

Core Responsibilities:

 

  • Remove cat from condo
  • Pet or brush cat
  • Play with cat using a variety of cat toys
  • Clean litter box, sweep out condo, take used litter to trash can behind the store
  • Return cat to condo and provide fresh water
  • Fill out cat behavior report at the end of each session

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Calm and patient demeanor with cats
  • Cat experience helpful, though not required

 

Age requirement:

17 years and older

 

Dress code:

Modest attire, jeans are permitted; no flip-flops.

 

Orientation and Training:

  • Volunteer orientation
  • Kitty care 101 training with a staff member

Community Event Team

Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Manage Crossroads booth/table at community events, sharing information about Crossroads and encouraging people to volunteer, donate and visit the store.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment: Varies

Location of Work:  Varies

 

Goals:

Enhance Crossroads’ presence within the community.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Pick up and transport event booth to location
  • Set up booth
  • Talk with event attendees
  • Direct questions to appropriate staff
  • Sell merchandise (when available)
  • Provide flyers/literature to event attendees
  • Tear down event booth and return all supplies to Crossroads
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Able to stand, walk, sit and lift booth supplies

Data Entry

Reports to:

Staff –  Executive Director, Program Director, Development Coordinator,

Volunteer Coordinator, Education Coordinator or Adoptions Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Assist Crossroads with data entry, enabling staff members to devote more time to supporting our youth and animals.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment: Minimum 30 minutes

Location of Work:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Improve timeliness and accuracy in Crossroads’ database systems.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Input new data as assigned
  • Quality check data

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Eye for detail
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Capable of working in noise associated with a pet retail store

 

Age requirement:

17 years and older

Dog Walker

Reports to:

Adoptions Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Improve the quality of life for Crossroads Pets’ adoptable dogs by providing exercise and human interaction while walking in and around Germantown.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment:   Minimum 30 minutes

Location of Work:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Create a caring and safe environment for Crossroads’ dogs as they wait to go to loving forever homes.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Use positive-reinforcement during all interactions with the dogs
  • Remove dog from kennel as instructed using slip lead method
  • Use assigned walking gear for each dog –  harness or collar, leash, treats, poo bags
  • Walk dog in neighborhood, keeping dog safe from stray dogs, debris & food on the ground, clean up after dog poops
  • Return dog to kennel and provide fresh water at the end of the walk
  • Return walking gear to appropriate place
  • Fill out dog walking report at the end of each walk

  • Must have health insurance coverage

Foster Home

Reports to:

Adoptions Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Improve the quality of life for Crossroads Pets’ adoptable dogs by providing temporary housing for adoptable dogs, promoting positive human interaction and following special care instructions as needed.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment:   3 days -8 weeks

 

Goals:

To provide loving, stable homes and prepare animals to be adopted by their forever families.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Use positive-reinforcement during all interactions with the dogs
  • Provide medical care as directed by the Adoptions Manager (all medical expenses are paid by Crossroads)
  • Follow behavior modification/training program as directed by the Adoptions Manager
  • Teach/model good social skills
  • Provide daily exercise and mental stimulation
  • Crate train foster dogs
  • Transport adoptable pets to/from Crossroads Pets at assigned times
  • Transport adoptable pet to/from veterinary appointments
  • Submit weekly pup-date to Adoptions Manager
  • Submit pictures/videos weekly (or daily) to Adoptions Manager for marketing
  • Adhere to all policies in the CP Foster Manual

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Calm and patient demeanor with dogs
  • Must have health insurance coverage and homeowners/renters insurance
  • Renters must have landlord approval

 

Age requirement:

21 years and older

Landscaping Helper

Reports to:

Program Director, Retail Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Assist in regular maintenance of Crossroads landscaping, creating welcoming environment for Crossroads to increase sales and adoptions.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment: Flexible (during Crossroads’ business hours)

Location:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Maintain attractive grounds for Crossroads.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Check in with staff at beginning of each shift
  • Responsible for maintaining Crossroads’ landscaping, including weeding around the building and other landscaped areas, planting native plants, and other landscaping duties as needed.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ability to follow specific instructions from staff, volunteer managers
  • Must be able to walk, bend and stoop

 

Age requirement:

17 years and older

Retail Associate

Reports to:

Retail Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Provide excellent customer service in the Crossroads retail operation (which financially supports the animals and youth of Crossroads) and model interpersonal skills for interns.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment:   minimum 1 hour

 

Goals:

To create a friendly and successful neighborhood retail experience.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Greeting customers
  • Answer phone
  • Directing customers to merchandise or appropriate staff person to resolve questions or problem
  • Clean retail space (dust, sweep, mop, empty trash)
  • Maintain and replenish retail stock
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Events Team

Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator, Executive Director, Event Team Leader

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Assist with coordination of special events and other fundraising activities which often financially impact the programs for the people and pets of Crossroads.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment:   Varies

Goals:

To raise awareness of, and funding for, Crossroads.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Fulfill duties as assigned by Volunteer Coordinator, Executive Director or Event Team Leader

Young Adult Mentor

Reports to:

Program Director

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Share time and information for enrichment of young adults.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment: minimum 1 hour/week

 

Goals:

Provide young adults with tools needed for independent living.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a mentor and role model for young adults
  • Provide input and insight into areas, such as:
    • Managing finances and personal budgets
    • Healthy eating and cooking
    • Cleaning
    • Auto care/purchasing
    • Personal care
      • Dressing for the workplace
      • Hair and makeup

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ability to interact with young adults

Youth Education and Animal Enhancement Team

Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator, Adoptions Manager

 

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

Coordinate small youth group events providing basic education about companion animals and assist them in creating dog and cat enrichment toys for our pets.

 

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

Time Commitment: approximately 2 hours per session

Location of Work:  Crossroads

 

Goals:

Foster a better understanding of companion animals and the mission of Crossroads.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • In advance of the date, ensure that all supplies for projects are on hand
  • Set up for group
  • Teach youth about handling cats and/or dogs
  • Engage them in project for pets of Crossroads
  • Clean up after event

 

Qualifications/Requirements:
